Appzaloot

Appzaloot is a startup social media app that aims to connect users and their friends with places and events in the real world.

I worked as the lead designer for the project, starting from scratch with just a list of features and ideas the founders had.

The apps design is focused around the central top down home view of your immediate environment, with all feeds available with a simple thumb swipe.

Exploring in-app reward systems for populating the app was an idea I implemented to quickly onboard new users, motivate interaction and make cryptocurrency more easily accessible to the average app user.


Good Vibes Yoga

Good Vibes is a yoga studio in Melbourne. They wanted to expand their business and optimise their presence and marketing across the digital platforms.
I was responsible for
— updating their branding
— re-designing their website
— creating fluid digital marketing campaigns
— photographing the studios

I wanted to have some data to work with, so I did short interviews with 15 people who tried to navigate the website, explore the schedule and pricing options and then purchase some yoga classes.

  • 7 people said the process took too much of their time
  • 4 people said they had problems navigating the site
  • 3 people said they were confused about the pricing
  • 2 people said they wanted to ask questions but didn’t see an easy way to contact the company
  • 2 people weren’t sure if the studio was accessible for beginners

This was a small number of people to study but enough to get started on what was universally agreed to be their core issues with user experience and on the boarding process.

I designed a new site that conveys the core messages about the studio and guides the user with clear prompts to flow through the site with ease.

The main value the onboarding process needs to serve, is to set initial expectations of the yoga studio and get the minimum information needed to get the user started with a trial week.

Various landing pages were created for google and facebook ads with several a/b tests created for varying copy, imagery, calls to action and offers.

Yoga posed to be rather intimidating for some users and we found integrating an instant chat functionality to answer any questions the users had greatly improved the sign up rate.

Good Vibes opened a new studio this year. I worked with them to utilise all social platforms to spread the message and opening offers. From Instagram stories and facebook videos to printed collateral.

Examples of just some of the creative ads that were used for smaller digital campaigns for facebook and google ads.

Throughout the design process, I made sure to regularly get feedback from staff and the yoga students.

I made various versions of the site designs and asked people to do simple tasks, such as “start a week trial” or “check this week’s schedule”. If they found issues I did changes and simplified my design until I got to a result that optimised the process.

 

I believe this concept is a good place to start. It implements good UX practices as a solution to a common problem, using the technology we have today, and it can dramatically improve the user retention for this kind of business.

What I loved about this project is that with increasing user retention and new clients, i’m actually helping people live healthier lives, which is very rewarding.

Results

— 250% increase in monthly revenue
— 300% increase in new people visiting the studio
— 200% increase in contract memberships
— 25% increase in client retention

International Vietnamese Food Chain

Working on Rolld’s 2018 international advertising campaign.

My responsibilities included UI/UX design, app design, website design, digital illustration and video production.

App Development

The app uses in-app gamification to encourage users to explore the full vietnamese menu.

Digital menu stamps record the user’s journey rewarding them through redeemable points and accolades.

As part of the global campaign launch they needed a website overhaul. I designed the site to facilitate the new look and feel.

Part of the ‘Taste the Journey campaign integrated digital illustrations.

The aim was to visually present the burst of flavor and the story of the food’s origin.

This was one of many unique hand-painted illustrations I worked on for the rollout designs.

Branding and building a global platform for Cryptocurrency

in>crypto is a new digital platform for  cryptocurrency and the future of decentralised technology.

I worked on the web design, app design, art direction and branding.

App design for the core cryptocurrency content feeds.

Website design and development.

I designed the branding to reflect a merging between the nature of biological organisms and the digital world of blockchain technology.
The branding guidelines included various social media templates with animated gif graphics.

Designing the ‘Wilder Minds’ Album Artwork

THE BRIEF

The brief was to develop Mumford & Son’s Wilder Mind album artwork whilst working closely alongside the art directors at Studio Juice. They had various rough sketches and it was my job to bring it to life.

IMAGE COMPOSITIONS

Part of the project was to compile a large digital collage of exclusive shots of the band for the vinyl and cd artworks.

TYPOGRAPHY

I was given hundreds of photographs of neon tubing that had been bent and arranged in different ways. In photoshop I manipulated these to build a custom type for ‘Wilder Mind’ that was used across the entire campaign.

RESULTS

The album debuted #1 in UK and the USA selling millions of copies around the world. It was incredible to see some of my design work used across the globe especially when you walk past the billboards in the centre of London city.

THE BRIEF

The brief was to build a UK based natural wholefoods store both online and offline from scratch. I created the brand identity, built the e-commerce store, created all graphic design material, photographed all the products and continue to work with Wholefood Earth across the board.

We then started work on the ecommerce store for Wholefood Earth working closely with the team to create a consistent branding style across all aspects of the platform.

Y O G A R E T R E A T

I filmed, edited and directed this short film from Dharma Inc with Owen from Live Learn Evolve whilst living on the premises in April this year.
We worked closely within the community to really capture the unique environment Kailash Akhara offers. It gave us an opportunity to work on an incredibly insightful project outside of our usual work. Subsequently, I’m keen to work on similar projects and with like minded individuals.
